Thirty-four years ago on this very day, my life changed forever. It was the day I met the man I would eventually marry. Fast forward to May 7, 2025, and my life changed drastically once again; he was killed by a drunk driver on his way home from work.
In the months after, I threw myself into painting and drawing. I didn't set out to build a business. I just needed somewhere to put everything I was feeling, and a paintbrush turned out to be the thing that held it. Slowly, painting stopped being just a place to survive and started being a place I actually wanted to be.
Somewhere along the way, I made a decision: life is too short not to spend it doing what I love. There was another reason, too. My daughter lives with chronic illness and faces real challenges every single day, and building something of my own means I can work from home and be there for her when she needs me. So I'm now on the journey of turning that art into something you can bring into your own home; prints, canvas wall art, mugs, and tee shirts, all featuring original artwork I create myself.
Coastal Art Inspired by Where I Live
Everything I paint is inspired by the place I call home: the Coastal Carolinas. The marshes, the live creatures we share the area with, the light on the water at the end of the day; it's all here, and it's all still teaching me how to heal.
Ellen Jean Coastal Art is a small art studio based in the Coastal Carolinas, offering original coastal artwork on paper prints, canvas prints, mugs, and tee shirts.
Introducing My First Collection: Coastal Birds
I just released my very first collection featuring 7 hand-drawn Coastal Birds. I chose bright, retro colors that always remind me of the beach, and the tees and mugs have cheeky expressions for the seagull, heron, egret, American oystercatcher, sandpiper, pelican and osprey. Each piece is meant to bring a little bit of the coastline into your home, whether you're decorating a beach house, a lake house, or just a corner of your own that needs more coastal wall art.
